We were fortunate enough to receive a small allocation of Mourvèdre from the Stillwater Creek Vineyard in 2007 – a grape traditionally blended with either Syrah and/or Grenache. We chose to blend this little gem with our Stillwater Creek Syrah and the result was, well, magic! Hints of lavender, leather and oak open into flavors of ripe, dark fruits, berries and earth. A long, soft finish invites another sip…
The Mourvèdre was gently coopered in three year old (neutral) American oak for fourteen months to maintain as much varietal character as possible. The Syrah was aged in new Hungarian oak for thirteen months to lend a Smokey, earthy element to the final blend.
