We were fortunate enough to receive a small allocation of Mourvedre from Stillwater Creek Vineyard in 2012 – a grape traditionally blended with either Syrah and/or Grenache. We choose to blend this little gem with our Stillwater Creek Syrah and the result was, well, magic! Hints of lavender, leather and oak open into flavors ripe, dark fruits, berries and earth. A long, soft finish invites another sip…
The Mourvedre was gently coopered in three year old (neutral) American oak for fourteen months to maintain as much varietal character as possible; the Syrah was aged in new Hungarian oak for thirteen months to lend a Smokey, earthy element to the final blend.
